Laminated Glazing by Solar Innovations™

Generally, laminates are utilized for overhead glazing as they are by far safer than regular glazing options.
Laminted Glazing on Wikipedia

Annealed Laminated Glass
Filtering UV over 90% and resistant to forced entry, this product is perfect for overhead and first floor applications.  Some research greenhouses have decided to utilize this glazing option to conduct research.

Advantages

  • Reduces unwanted noise. Especially useful in areas near airports, industry, traffic, or wherever unpleasant sounds exist.
  • If laminated glass is broken, the vinyl interlayer remains in the frame, with glass fragments adhering to the interlayer. Typically required in commercial applications or over head glazing.
  • Laminated glass can block over 95% of the UV energy while allowing most of the visible light through.
  • Low-E coatings.
  • Tinting options.
  • Monolithic or insulating glass.
  • Low-maintenance exterior coatings.
  • Can be cut to size in current state without fracturing.

Disadvantages

  • Vulnerable to breakage due to impact.

Heat Strengthened Laminated Glass
This glazing option performs similar to annealed laminate, but experiences less breakage.  With a much higher breaking point, this product can be used for large overhead glazing applications and for other skylight applications.

Advantages

  • Less susceptible to breakage than annealed laminated.
  • Greater resistance to direct force than annealed laminated glass.

Disadvantages

  • Cannot be cut in heat-strengthened state.
  • Not as resistance to direct force as tempered glass.

Tempered Laminated Glass
This product is used minimally as it tends to experience breakage.  When breakage occurs, tempered laminate breaks into small pieces, making it code complaint for overhead glazing applications.
