Product Testing & Certifications

Solar is dedicated to providing safe, quality products to customers and our in-house test labs offer the unique opportunity to execute tests quickly and efficiently with certification by nationally-recognized third parties.  Many of Solar’s products have attained Florida, Energy Star, NFRC, Miami NOA, TDI, and Acoustical credentials.

NAMI (National Accreditation & Management Institute)

Solar Innovations® uses the National Accreditation & Management Institute, or NAMI, to attest to Solar Innovations®’s Quality Assurance program.  NAMI specializes in fenestration products, which includes, but is not limited to, windows, patio doors, skylights, sidelights, entrance doors, transoms, glazing wall systems, site-built products, and insulating glass.  As a certification agency, NAMI is required to operate under ISO Guide 65 and ISO Standard 17020. Solar Innovations® is certified by the National Accreditation and Management Institute, which is ANSI and IAS accredited for both of those standards.  (*As a participant of NAMI, Solar Innovations®’s Quality Assurance Program is required to comply with ISO Guide 53.)

Note: Solar Innovations® can provide additional testing to those listed, if required. Solar can also provide simulation results or preliminary results, before actual final testing is completed. Solar Innovations® can also produce custom units to fit any rough opening provided the individual panel size approved or tested is not exceeded.

Florida Approved Products

The Florida building code, implemented in 2001, is a single statewide building system that regulates every company involved in the repair, construction, or alteration of structures.  Prompted by a series of natural disasters in the early 1990s, it replaced a complex existing system of local regulations.

Solar Innovations® product listings can be found on the Florida Building Code website: Florida Building Code Online.

HVHZ & Miami NOA

Based on the memorandum from the State of Florida Department of Community Affairs, any product listed on the Florida Building Code Online which meets the state requirements for HVHZ is approved for use in both Miami-Dade and Broward counties of Florida. This allows for HVHZ products to be used in those counties even if the product is not listed on the Miami Dade Building Code website.

Based on the image to the right you can see that Solar’s 12279.1 “All Wall” is a viable solution in the Miami-Dade and Broward counties.

Texas Approved Products

Solar was previously added to TDI’s website for our Impact Resistant Curtain Walls and Store Front Systems, as well as our impact resistant side glazed fixed aluminum skylight/roof window.

Several Solar products have been listed on the Texas Department of Insurance website. TDI has approved several products to be installed along the Texas Gulf Coast.

Products include:

  • Flat Impact Wood Curtain Wall,
  • 102 Degree Corner Wood Curtain Wall,
  • 3×10 Aluminum Folding Glass Wall,
  • Thermally Broken Aluminum Glass Door Panels,
  • Poly Wall Twin Aluminum Window with Polycarbonate Infill,
  • 3 ½’ x 9 ½’ Aluminum Folding Glass Wall, and
  • Impact Resistant Pyramid Aluminum Fixed Skylights

Acoustically Tested Products

The most important factor to remember when discussing acoustical testing is that the acoustical values are specific to your glazing selection. The two major components of Acoustical Testing are the STC (Sound Transmission Class) and OITC (Outdoor-Indoor Transmission Class).

Glass products can be used to reduce unwanted noise in your structures, doors, windows, and skylights. The acoustical performance is influenced by the glass as well as the construction of the framing unit.

For that reason, Solar has designed a thermally-insulated, aluminum framework for our products.

Acoustic-Testing-Green-DiagramSTC – Sound Transmission Class

STC or Sound Transmission Class is the rating of how well a glazing unit can gradually reduce air-born sound. STC is widely used to rate interior and exterior partitions, doors, and windows. An STC rating can roughly reflect the reduction of decibels in noise that the unit can provide.

OITC – Outdoor-Indoor Transmission Class

OITC or Outdoor-Indoor Transmission Class indicates the amount of sound transmittance between outdoor and indoor spaces. While STC is based on a noise spectrum, OITC uses a source noise spectrum and considers environmental frequencies, such as aircraft, rail, and automotive traffic. OITC puts more emphasis on lower frequencies.

Please Note: In addition to the testing standards listed, other standards such as ISO 9001, monitor the internal Quality Management System of a manufacturer within many groups. Not only does NAMI monitor Solar Innovations®’s Internal Quality Management System, but it is also an external source of inspection for product certification to standards expressly for the type of products (fenestration) Solar Innovations® manufactures.
