Ventilation Options

The use of ridge vents, eave vents, and windows in a Solar Innovations™ structure will create a functional, passive ventilation system. Ridge vents are placed at the highest point of the structure while eave vents and windows are positioned in vertical walls. This combination provides a balance of fresh air and a practical method for temperature control.

The overall size of the structure, glass type, and desired internal environment will determine the configuration of ridge and eave vents. Solar Innovations™ offers both manual and motorized ridge and eave vent alternatives.

Ridge and eave vents in high humidity/moisture environments, such as a pool enclosure or greenhouse, utilize moisture-resistant linear actuator motors with thermostats for motorized operators or arm and rod operators and poles for manual operation.

In low humidity/moisture environments, such as a sunroom or conservatory, ridge and eave vents utilize a motorized vent equipped with a rain sensor and optional thermostat, while the manual ridge and eave vents are operated with an arm and rod operator and a pole for a manual operation.

Solar Innovations™ ridge vents are typically manufactured to a 27” diagonal on the slope. They are available in various bay widths up to 48” with a total overall length up to 24’. Our eave vents are typically 27” high and are available in various bay widths up to 48" with a total overall length up to 24'. Eave vents will match the bay widths of the structure; however, numerous custom designs are available.

The diagrams below show the benefits of ridge and eave vents in both our lean-to and double pitch structures. With a ridge vent, the accumulated hot air is released. This provides a cooler environment as well as proper circulation. Without a ridge vent, hot air builds up at the top of the structure. This prevents fresh air from entering the structure, which in turn delays the cooling process and limits air circulation.

In addition to our ridge vents, Solar Innovations™ , offers hooded cooling fans. The fan is installed near the ridge of a structure. The placement allows the fans to remove the hottest air at the ridge first and then continue to cool the rest of the space. The unit is operated by a manual control or thermostat, making it suitable for most applications. It comes standard in bronze white, and sandstone, includes a wall mounted thermostat, and is glazed in-system like a piece of glass.
