How to Replant an Orchid

August 23, 2012

Orchids are typically slow growers, so they need to be re-potted less often than typical houseplants.  The majority of orchid species thrive in a tight container. However, orchids will sometimes require a larger container.

This is a photograph shows an orchid we recently purchased at a trade show.  After removing the plastic container, we were shocked to see how tightly the roots had grown. There was very little potting mix left and the roots were growing into themselves. This orchid was promptly repotted into a much larger container and the roots were cut apart.
