Forcing Bulbs for Winter Growth

A popular fall activity of  greenhouse gardeners is preparing bulbs to force winter blooms. In February, flowers can not naturally bloom outside, in the northern hemisphere. The act of forcing a bulb, will insure that there are blooming Orchids on your windowsill over the cold winter months. Forcing a bulb is an easy task.  First, find a container and fill half of it with potting soil, then place the bulb top up, and fill the remainder of the container with potting soil. Keep the flower pot in a cool location, preferably under fifty degrees. Finally, water occasionally and wait.  When you begin to notice green sprouts, provide the container with plenty of consistent daylight and water.  You will have winter blooms in no time at all!
