Islamic conservatories traditionally enclosed courtyards and were complimented by water features, such as reflecting pools. Due to the arid climate of the Middle East, Islamic conservatories featured very little glass, instead utilizing masonry walls with domed or solid roofs.
A dome skylight on the roof and a decorative finial are examples of Islamic design elements. The addition of windows that are ogee, horse shoe, or clover leaf in shape, with transoms or grids add to the conservatory’s visual appeal. To create a cohesive Islamic aesthetic throughout the conservatory, utilize furniture that is low to the ground and utilize a rich color palette, such as jewel tones (emerald, ruby, sapphire, etc.).
