Pivot Doors Provide Contemporary Design Solutions for Large Openings

Pine Grove, PA, October 21st, 2013 – Solar Innovations, Inc., a custom manufacturer of residential and commercial pivoting, folding, sliding, and stacking walls, doors, windows, and screens; skylights; greenhouses; conservatories; and sunrooms; provides pivots doors for use in large openings with projection limitations.

Integrate Pivot Doors and Terrace DoorsSolar Innovations, Inc.’s pivoting door system provides the ideal solution for large openings with projection restrictions. A typical terrace door rarely exceeds 36″ in width, limiting the available entryway. Pivot Doors can easily be designed to accommodate 60″ wide or larger openings with engineering approval. End users typically select a pivot door when saving space is a concern or a large opening is required. A 36″ terrace door would project a full 36″ from the jamb, while a 60″ pivot door with a 12″ offset pivot would only project 48″. This option creates larger openings with less obstruction.

Pivot doors are available in single or double door configurations and are available for use in residential or commercial applications. Traditional terrace doors are hinged, allowing them to swing left or right (in or out). In contrast, pivot doors feature an offset “pivot” that is normally located between 7 to 12 inches from the jamb of the door, the doors then pivot in and out based around this vertical axis.

If large unobstructed views are a priority, Solar Innovations, Inc.’s pivot doors are the ideal solution. Because of the large glass area these doors provide, customers can experience the beauty of their surroundings with minimally obstructed views. A traditional 36″ wide terrace door, with 18″ sidelites, requires additional framing and will break up views.

Decorative Pivot Doors with MullionsSolar Innovations, Inc.’s pivot doors are designed to match the sightlines of many other Solar Innovations, Inc. products. Combinations of pivot doors with terrace and French doors, folding, or stacking walls will create a uniform appearance. Pivot doors and terrace doors can also be incorporated into a single unit, creating a functional and stylish entrance. When combined, the terrace door can be used for quick entry and the pivot door can be opened when fresh air is desired or when large objects need to pass through. Solar Innovations, Inc.’s patented Adjustable Door Catch can be adapted work with various pivot door applications and compliment the door’s modern design.

The pivot door is quickly becoming a staple of contemporary design; consisting of minimal framing and large glass areas, the door style is the perfect addition to any modern styled home or commercial space. Horizontal mullions and grid work can be added in countless configurations to create any design.  The incorporation of grid lines can also be implemented to achieve a more traditional or classic feel.

Solar Innovations, Inc.’s pivot doors feature an aluminum frame which is durable, thermally broken, resistant to the elements, and requires little finish maintenance. Insulated, tempered glass is the standard offering in pivot doors, but impact glass is also available for units located along the coast. Solar has plans to impact test a 5′ wide x 10′ tall pivot door for Impact certification in the fourth quarter of 2013.
