Here is a fun project for your garden (next spring) or your greenhouse (over winter). Why not grow your own peanuts? Most gardeners don’t think of growing peanuts enough though they are a simple to grow. Peanuts are usually grown in the South, but they can easily be grown in the north as well. They require long hours of sunlight and average soil. Seeds can be purchased online and planted like a regular seed before your last frost date to give them a head start. A peanut plant will bloom like a regular flower. At the end of summer you can harvest the peanuts, which produce around ten nuts per plant. Finally, you can roast the peanuts for a healthy homegrown snack.
